Lessons in Hope is George Weigel's most recent book about Saint John Paul II. The book completes the trilogy consisting of Witness to Hope and The End and the Beginning . Collectively, the three books offer an authoritative and definite account of Karol Wojtyła's remarkable life, from his time in Wadowice to the end of his pontificate in 2005. Weigel does a superb job of engaging with different dimensions of Wojtyła's life from his personal encounters with others through his political beliefs, to his not always easily accessible theological writings. Lessons in Hope is somewhat different from the other two books in that it focuses on anecdotes that accompanied the author when writing the Witness to Hope. In many ways the last book is about the first one. Lessons in Hope is thus not a biography, but a collection of stories. Cardinal is the second highest office in the Catholic Church, second only to the pope himself. Generally speaking, cardinals have two main tasks in addition to being regular bishops - every cardinal is a bishop but not every bishop is a cardinal - they the pope and then advise him.  At any given time there are roughly 200 cardinals around the world. However, only those cardinals who on the day of the conclave are below 80 can vote to elect the new pope. It is an informal practice to maintain the number of eligible cardinals below 120. For some time now, the Polish media has been using imprecise concepts that in turn hinder the correct assessment of the political situation in the county. First, PiS (the ruling Law and Justice party) tends to be identified with the Catholic Church because of certain overlapping positions that these two institutions take. This is the case, for example, with the flagship PiS program of 500+ which the Church strongly supports. Presenting PiS and the Church as allies is very beneficial for the Law and Justice deputies.
