Od mniej więcej 16 lat, kiedy to dziennikarze Boston Globe opublikowali serię artykułów o nadużyciach seksualnych w bostońskim wspólnotach, Kościół boryka się z tym bardzo poważnym problemem. Wydawało się, że to co najgorsze już za nami kiedy to pod koniec lipca 2018, jeden z bardzo wysokich hierarchów - Amerykański Kardynał Theodore McCarrick   - został oskarżony o nadużycia seksualne. Dowody przeciwko kardynałowi były na tyle poważne i niepodważalne, że Papież Franciszek zadecydował się odebrać status kardynała McCarrickowi i zawiesił go w jego działaniach duszpasterskich. Warto dodać, że decyzja Papieża została podjęta zanim sądy watykańskie rozpoczęły swoje działania przeciw byłemu kardynałowi, a więc przynajmniej w oczach Franciszka sprawa była bardzo jasna a jego wina niepodważalna. Jednak kolejnym problemem dla Kościoła jest sprawa wysoko postawionych dygnitarzy kościelnych - w Watykanie i USA - którzy z dużym prawdopodobieństwem wiedzieli o zachowaniu Mc

Cardinal is the second highest office in the Catholic Church, second only to the pope himself.
